
The Ming Tomb, situated at Dulongfu of Wanzhu Peak at the southern foot of Zhongshan Mountain, the burial place for Zhu Yuanzhang, the first emperor of the Ming dynasty, and his wife Ma Liangliang. It was built in 1381 with a spectacular scale. According to “Records of Jiangnin prefecture under the reign of Kangxi in the Qing dynasty”, the red wall of the Ming Tomb is 22.5 kilometers in circumference. It is one of the largest imperial tombs existing in China so far.
The Ming Tomb has experienced drastic changes and damages. Now, there are the Tablet-Pavilion, the Tomb-Path, the Tablet Hall, Sacrificial Hall, the Square City, the Ming Tower and the Treasure City in existence. The Ming Tomb looks spectacular and unique. Its underground palace already investigated clearly for future excavation is even more miraculous. After national liberation, particularly in recent years,the Ming Tomb has been under proper protection and management. On July 4, 2003,it was incorporated into “A list of world-famous cultural heritage”,formally becoming a member of the world-famous cultural heritage.
